The Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) provides grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 to community organisations and local governments for capital projects.
The input of the community is a key element of the SCP. Projects are selected by Members of Parliament (MPs) and their community consultation committees, and are then submitted to the Government for assessment.
Rounds one and two of the SCP were very successful, with a wide variety of projects funded across Australia. Successful projects included men’s sheds and associated equipment, scoreboards, computers, upgrades to community halls and clubhouses, equipment for both aged care and day care facilities, art works, inflatable rescue boats and disaster recovery generators.
In the 2017 Budget the Australian Government committed $22.5 million for a third round of the Stronger Communities Programme.
Funding of up to $150,000 in each Federal Electorate will be available in 2017-18. Applicants are required to match the SCP grant in cash or in-kind on at least a dollar for dollar basis.
Applications for round three will open on 7 August 2017. Guidance materials including the Programme Guidelines are available on the www.business.gov.au/scp web page.
To find out what is happening in your electorate, talk to your local MPs. Applicants will be invited to apply by MPs following community consultation.
